Ruth Turay and Jarianatu TarawallyAs a way of giving back to the school which nurtured her to excel in Athletics (High Jump, Hurdles & Sprinting), it was thought fit that the Fund establish an Athletic Scholarship. The Jestina V. Jones Athletic Scholarship supports Annie Walsh Memorial School (AWMS) students who demonstrate ability to compete in local, regional and / or international athletic competitions. The goal of this scholarship at present is to sponsor two girls at a time (one from the Junior School and another from the Senior School) with a scholarship to cover tuition, books, uniforms, appropriate sport shoes and/or equipment and any registration fees for sports activities within Sierra Leone and beyond.

It is hoped that those who qualify for this scholarship will show marked improvement in their academic and personal growth each year while they develop their athletic talents.

Scholarship recipients are selected by the advisory body who consists of a family member of Jestina V. Jones, the AWMS Principals, and the AWMS Sports Coach.

To date, four (4) awards have been given out by the Board of Directors. In 2015/2016, Ruth Turay, (above left) senior student and swimmer, received a cheque for Le 1,200,000.00 and Jarianatu Tarawally, (above right) junior student and sprinter, received a cheque of Le 900,000.00.  In 2016/2017, Jarianatu Tarawally, now a senior student, received a cheque for Le 1,200,000.00 and Josephine Samai, junior student and sprinter, received a cheque of Le 900,000.00.
